Warrior Met, in Brookwood, mines metallurgical coal for the global steel industry. The underground mines in Brookwood are 1,400 to 2,100 feet underground, making them some of the deepest vertical shaft coal mines in North America.
1,348 — Michelin/BF Goodrich Tire Manufacturing
Founded in 1946, Michelin/BF Goodrich makes aftermarket tires. The plant has more than 1.6 million square feet of manufacturing space.
1,204 — Phifer Inc.
Phifer makes aluminum and fiberglass inset screening in Tuscaloosa. Started in 1952, the company’s weaving expertise has helped it branch out into interior and exterior sun control fabrics for commercial and residential applications, as well as engineered products of metal and textile meshes for industrial applications.
1,107 — SMP Automotive Systems Alabama
SMP makes bumper modules and plastic vehicle body parts for the automotive industry. The groundbreaking for the plant in Tuscaloosa was in 2016, with the start of part production in 2018.
768 — ARD Logistics
ARD is a third-party logistics provider, headquartered in Vance, that offers warehousing, freight forwarding, contract logistics, contract assembly and procurement services.
645 — Brose Tuscaloosa
Founded in 2004 in Vance, Brose makes door systems, cooling fan modules and seat adjusters for Daimler, BMW, VW and Ford.
450 — Peco Foods
This 80-year-old, family-owned company with its corporate office in Tuscaloosa, is the eighth largest poultry producer in the United States.
429 — Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa
Nucor makes coil and cut plate steel. It was the first U.S. steel mill to use the Steckel mill technology to produce high quality wide plate from coil.
484 — ZF Chassis Systems
ZF, which makes axle systems for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan in Tuscaloosa, won the 2019 Manufacturer of the Year Award, presented by the Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network.
