State Farm’s operations center on Lakeshore Drive will close permanently, part of a nationwide move by the insurance company to shift its workforce from working at offices to working remotely.
“As a company, maintaining flexibility in how and where we work is just one of the many ways we can better serve customers,” said Gina Morss-Fischer, public affairs specialist for State Farm.
In recent days, State Farm has announced similar closings across the country.
“We recently announced that employees will no longer physically report to a number of State Farm operations centers located across the country, including Birmingham,” Morss-Fischer said. “Most employees assigned to these locations have been working from home since March and will continue to do so. … Timelines for withdrawal from the facilities are being finalized and will vary by location.”
The Birmingham office is the only facility affected in Alabama.
