
Shelby Baptist Medical Center
The 252-bed Shelby Baptist Medical Center has been serving the Alabaster community since 1959 and offers a full range of specialties and services, including bariatrics; diagnostic imaging; emergency room care; gynecology; oncology; orthopedics; physical therapy; a sleep disorder center; surgical care, including minimally invasive robotic surgery; urology; and wound care.
The medical center has been recognized as a leader in heart attack, heart failure and stroke care and has received Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission and Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement in Stroke from the American Heart Association.
In August 2024, Orlando Health bought Tenet’s 70% stake in Baptist Health System, which includes Shelby Baptist.
In July 2024, the medical center opened a new $20,000 Nursing Education Hall featuring several new hospital rooms and simulation labs that are available to local nursing students and hospital staff for health care training. The project was funded by the Baptist Health Foundation.
And in June, the hospital celebrated the opening of a newly renovated cardiac catheterization laboratory. The $2.2 million project included updating electrical infrastructure, wiring, plumbing and architectural finishes.
Grandview Medical Center
Grandview Medical Center is a 434-bed tertiary care hospital that offers a range of services including cardiac electrophysiology, oncology, orthopedics, women’s services, digestive disorders, rehabilitation services, behavioral health, robotic-assisted surgery and emergency care. Specialty units include a Level III trauma center; certified Chest Pain Center; stroke center; cancer center; cardiac cath lab; neonatal, surgical and medical intensive care; and a freestanding emergency department in Trussville.
The hospital operates several primary care offices throughout Shelby County in Pelham, Columbiana, Chelsea, Lee Branch, Greystone Brook Highland and Hoover, and an office in Helena opened in 2023. Plans are underway for a freestanding emergency department in the Hoover area that will be located at the Valleydale I-65 exit.
In August 2024, Grandview Medical Center celebrated the opening of 10 new ER treatment rooms. The expansion used 3,600 square feet of shell space within the emergency department footprint and brought the total number of treatment rooms to 32.
In September 2024, Grandview opened a new advanced endoscopy suite featuring a new fluoroscopy unit, the first of its kind in Alabama, with features developed specifically for AI image-guided endoscopic GI procedures.
Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County
Located in Pelham, the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County has been serving the greater Birmingham area since 2018 and is a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury, hip fracture and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
The hospital’s stroke rehabilitation program has earned a Disease-Specific Care Certification from The Joint Commission and the hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Disease-Specific Care Certification in hip fracture rehabilitation.
Brookwood Baptist Freestanding Emergency Department
Brookwood Baptist Medical Center operates a freestanding emergency department in Shelby County that is one of the first of its kind in Alabama. The 12-bed, 25,000-square-foot facility provides hospital-level emergency services and 24-hour ambulance service. A lab and pharmacy are on site as well.
UAB St. Vincent’s One Nineteen
UAB Health System Authority assumed ownership of Ascension St. Vincent’s sites in 2024, including St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. The Shelby County facility has more than 30 specialist doctors and its services include cardiac rehabilitation; diagnostic outpatient services, including mammography and other imaging; laboratory testing; nutrition consultation; physical therapy; and wellness and fitness programs.
The location also houses Fitness One Nineteen, a full-service, 50,000-square-foot fitness center with exercise equipment, classes, an indoor saline lap pool and personal trainers and instructors, and Spa One Nineteen, which specializes in facials, massages and nail treatments.
