Auburn University’s Rural Studio, which teaches students how to use design to support residents of impoverished areas, has been named a National Design Award winner by the Cooper Hewitt museum. Rural Studio, located in Hale County and part of Auburn’s architecture school, won in the architecture and interior design category. – Smithsonian Magazine

 

Birmingham restaurant institution closes after 84 years

Bogue’s Restaurant, one of Birmingham’s oldest restaurants, is shutting its doors after 84 years on Clairmont Avenue. The diner was known for its hearty breakfasts, especially its homemade sweet rolls. – Bham Now

Culinary Dropout coming to Alabama

Culinary Dropout, the gastropub founded by James Beard-nominated Sam Fox, will open its first Alabama location at the Summit in Birmingham. The restaurant will open late next year. It already has locations in Arizona, Colorado and North Carolina, with one planned for Atlanta. AL.com

 

Chairman, co-founder of Porter Capital dies

Donald Porter, chairman and co-founder of Porter Capital Corporation, has died. Porter founded the secured lender company in Birmingham with his brother, Marc Porter, in 1991.  – Cision
