Regions Bank has been ordered to pay $191 million – including at least $141 million refunded to consumers – in a settlement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB accused the bank of levying “surprise” overdraft fees on some ATM withdrawals and debit card purchases from August 2018 through July 2021. – AL.com

 

Iconic Homewood restaurant closing

Nabeel’s, a Mediterranean market and café that has been a fixture in Homewood for 50 years, is closing its doors effective Friday. The restaurant was founded by Nabeel Shunnarah was sold to John and Ottavia Krontiras in 1993 and then, in 2017, to Ramsey Duck.  – Bham Now

UAB, USA cancer centers receive American Cancer Society grant

The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of South Alabama Health Mitchell Cancer Institute have received a $300,000 grant from the American Cancer Society to promote digital health literacy. It’s one of 14 patient navigation grants awarded by the ACS. – University of Alabama at Birmingham
