Spring Hill College has named Rebecca Cantor, Ph.D., its new provost

Spring Hill College has named Rebecca Cantor, Ph.D., as its new provost.

Cantor comes to Spring Hill from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where she served as department chair, professor of English and assistant provost. She brings leadership experience in managing and maintaining the integrity of an institutional curriculum while overseeing a portfolio of budget, communication and accreditation projects.

“She is highly qualified and experienced in student-centered academics and familiar with our Jesuit traditions,” said E. Joseph Lee, president of Spring Hill College. “We are confident that we made the best choice in one who understands our academic goals, curriculum-based instruction and data-driven decision making.”

As provost, Cantor will serve as the chief academic officer, responsible for all academic functions of the college. Additionally, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and discipline-specific accreditation, as well as developing a culture of continuous program evaluation, innovation and development.

Cantor is a graduate of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, has a master’s from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, California, and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. She also has authored two books and published several journal articles.

Cantor will assume the provost position on July 1. Lisa Hager will serve as associate provost, having served as interim provost since September 2020.
