The Birmingham redevelopment organization Urban Impact wants a portion of Fifth Avenue North renamed in honor of pioneering Black entrepreneur A.G. Gaston and has launched a petition drive to do it. Among many other things, Gaston established the Booker T. Washington Insurance Company. – The Birmingham Times

Arthur Hood, a Birmingham native now with HV Entertainment in Dallas, has purchased Zydeco, a live music venue on Birmingham’s Southside. For 34 years, Zydeco has hosted the likes of Counting Crows, John Mayer, Joan Osbourne and Sir Mix-A-Lot. – Bham Now
