“Save the Crestline Piggly Wiggly, ” shouts the Facebook page headline.
And residents of Mountain Brook turned out adorned with pink pig ear headbands and pig snout toppers as they rallied to keep the only grocery store in their upscale
community.
“Yes it is true, ” the Facebook page reads. “After speaking with Mountain Brook city officials, the Pig is probably leaving unless we, as a community, can help save it.”
With fun photos of customers and staff and posts from current and former residents of the Birmingham suburb, the page urges locals to shop at their hometown store if they want to keep it.
City officials told local media that lease negotiations have been in progress for some time, but that the fate of the store rests in whether the property owners and store owners can come to terms on a new lease when the current one expires at the end of November.
