Mercedes-Benz U.S. International plans to hire several hundred people at its Vance plant by the end of 2021 to meet demand for production of its vehicles. In addition, plans are to hire more during the next couple of years for the auto plant and the new EV battery facility in Bibb County. – Made in Alabama

 

Carraway development has name

The redevelopment of the Carraway Hospital campus will be called The Star Uptown. The logo will feature the old hospital’s iconic star against a Birmingham skyline. Corporate Realty is the firm behind the mixed-use development. Construction is expected to begin in early 2022.  – The Birmingham Times

Calhoun, Drake beefing up adult education programs

Drake State and Calhoun Community College in North Alabama are teaming up for their GOAL initiative – Greater Opportunities for Adult Learning. The immediate goal is to help fill 3,000 open jobs in the region. – WAFF 48

 

Buc-ee’s coming to Auburn

UB Community Development LLC, a community development partner of United Bank, says it has closed a $7 million New Markets Tax Credits transaction to bring a fourth Buc-ee’s to Alabama. The new Buc-ee’s, with 144 fuel pumps, electric charging stations and a large convenience store, will be located in Auburn adjacent to I-85. – ABC 12
