Amazon has filed a motion for the National Labor Relations Board to stop a Feb. 8 union election at its new Bessemer warehouse. The motion also asks the board to review of its decision to allow an election by mail because of COVID-19. – ESM

Tennessee company buys apartments in Madison
The Kirkland Co., based in Brentwood, Tennessee, has purchased The Grand Reserve at Madison for $39.4 million. That’s about $170,000 per unit at the complex. – AL.com

New unemployment claims down
New unemployment claims in Alabama dropped last week, the Alabama Department of Labor said. Alabamians filed 11,983 new unemployment claims last week, compared to 14,084 the previous week. About 50% of the claims were COVID-19-related, down from 79% the previous week. – Alabama Political Reporter
