A long-running lawsuit against Birmingham-based Drummond Co. and its president over labor-related killings near its Colombian mining operations has been dismissed in federal court for Northern Alabama.
The court ruled that the Alien Tort Statute, under which claims were filed, was not relevant because the killings occurred abroad. Further, Judge David Proctor ruled that claims against the Drummond president did not indicate any evidence that he condoned the murders by Colombian paramilitary groups, attorney John Bellinger III reports on the website Lawfare.
