The Kiwanis Club of Birmingham celebrated five leaders “whose leadership not only shapes their companies, but uplifts the entire greater Birmingham community,” said Lauren Roberts, co-chair of the Birmingham Business Hall of Fame.
The 2025 honorees of the Hall of Fame are John H. Holcomb III of National Bank of Commerce, Don James of Vulcan Materials Co., John D. Johns of Protective Life Corp., Charles McCrary of Alabama Power Co. and the late Horace Corbin Day of Jemison Investment Co.

“We, as Kiwanians, are aware of the strong connection between a successful and vibrant business community and the success and vibrancy of our community as a whole,” said Andrew Nix, president of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham. “The Birmingham Business Hall of Fame enables our club to continue to honor individuals from all parts of our city, across industries, who will always be an important part of the story of the growth and progress of Birmingham.”
Holcomb served as CEO of the National Bank of Commerce from 2010 until its acquisition in late 2018 by CenterState Bank of Davenport, Florida.

James retired as CEO of Vulcan Materials in 2014 and as chairman in 2015 after serving 18 years in leadership roles of the construction aggregates and aggregates-based materials company.

Johns joined Protective Life in 1993, becoming president and CEO in 2002, chairman in 2003 and executive chairman in 2017. Protective Life offers insurance and retirement instruments.

McCrary served Southern Co. for 40 years. He led Alabama Power Co., a subsidiary of Southern Co., as president and CEO.

Jemison Investment Co. is a privately held family company offering financial strategy and growth guidance to companies in a diverse range of industries, where Day last served as chairman.
