Josh Carpenter, president and CEO of Southern Research in Birmingham the past four years, is stepping down effective Dec. 6.
Coleman Loper, interim chief finance and administration officer, will serve as interim CEO until a permanent one is named.
Harry Ledebur remains as chief operating officer and Khalilah Brown remains as VP for Medical Affairs, with the continued support of Southern Research Board Chair and University of Alabama at Birmingham President Ray Watts.
“Josh has worked to chart a bold, new strategic direction for SR that capitalizes on its unique relationship with UAB and aligns common goals to advance and commercialize life science technologies,” Watts said. “I thank Josh for his many contributions and am confident the talented and dedicated team at SR will continue to build positive momentum.”
In an email Carpenter sent out, he said he will have more soon on his “next chapter.”
“However, for now, I am fully focused on ensuring we have a smooth transition,” he wrote.
