James Slauterbeck, M.D., has been named chair of orthopaedic surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He starts in January. Currently, Slauterbeck is a professor at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation and a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics in Burlington, Vermont. He also serves as head team orthopaedic surgeon for the University of Vermont athletics program.
He also has written more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and is an international speaker. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Tempe and a medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He completed his residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and his sports medicine fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles.
