Irfan Asif, M.D.

Irfan Asif, M.D. has been named associate dean for Primary Care and Rural Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.

Irfan Asif, M.D. has been named associate dean for Primary Care and Rural Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.

Asif currently serves as chair of the UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine. As a primary care physician with a specialization in sports and exercise medicine, he has developed a local, national and international reputation for teaching and scholarship. He recently was selected to serve as the team physician for the USA Wheelchair Rugby team, which is currently ranked as the second-best team in the world. The team will compete in the 2021 summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Asif joined UAB in 2018.

He earned his medical degree in 2007 from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Washington with a concentration in sports medicine.
