Hyundai Adds Third Shift, Nearly 900 Workers

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama opened May with an announcement that it’s hiring 877 workers for a third shift at its plant near Montgomery. The new workers will bring total employment to about 3, 000.

Plant workers have been putting in overtime hours for two years to meet demand for the popular Sonata and Elantra models made in the Hope Hull plant. In a record year for the 12-year-old plant, the Korean automaker produced 338, 000 automobiles.

Workers’ commitment to quality and craftsmanship are the keys to Hyundai’s decision “to continue to invest in the people of Alabama, ” company President Young Deuk Lim said in a written statement.
