Huntsville International Airport’s board has approved a $57 million project to add more than 1,400 parking spaces to an existing parking deck. The deck currently holds 2,394 vehicles.

“As our community grows, it’s more important than ever for the airport to meet increasing demand by seeking to expand air service and enhancing amenities,” said Joey Ceci, board chair for the Port of Huntsville. “This ensures that we continue to deliver the convenience and exceptional service our passengers expect.”

Robins & Morton is building the expansion, with KPS Group providing design services. Construction, which is slated to begin before the end of the year, is expected to take two years to complete.

The expanded deck will be six stories tall to match the existing deck and will increase total deck parking to more than 5,400 spaces. The entry plaza will be reconfigured into two separate plazas, one for deck parking and one for surface parking.

“We’re excited that growing demand to fly through HSV has given us the opportunity to expand with a larger parking deck,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport. “Long term, I think it’s going to make traffic flow much better.”
