Huntsville festival has name, dates
The South Star music festival will take place in Huntsville Sept. 28 and 29. The festival, to be held in John Hunt Park, will be the first large-scale music festival in the Rocket City since the final Big Spring Jam in 2011. – AL.com
Hospital, alcohol distributor plan layoffs
Bullock County Hospital in Union Springs and International Wines and Craft Beers in Alabaster each announced layoffs on the Alabama Department of Commerce’s WARN list this week. The hospital will lay off 95 people, while 52 people will lose their jobs at the Alabaster facility. – Alabama Department of Commerce
20 cabins open in Gulf Shores post-Sally
Twenty cabins have opened along Lake Shelby in Gulf Shores, replacing 17 destroyed during Hurricane Sally almost four years ago. The new cabins are part of a $9 million investment to make improvements by Gulf State Park, which was hit hard by the storm. – Bama Buzz
UAH student cyber team wins national championship
A student team from the University of Alabama in Huntsville has won the first Virtual Institutes for Cyber and Electromagnetic Spectrum Research and Employ (VICEROY) National Cyber Competition.
