Ground broken for new high school in Alexander City

Doster Construction Co. has broken ground on the new Benjamin Russell High School for the Alexander City Board of Education.

The new high school will be located at the corner of Highway 280 and Highway 63. The 215,000-square-foot project will include two gymnasiums, kitchen/cafeteria, media center, administration, auditorium, a two-story classroom wing, storm shelter and track/field.

Doster Construction team members are joined by employees of Alexander City Schools, Lathan Architects and Scout Program Management in the groundbreaking ceremony.

Doster, as general contractor, has begun the construction, which is scheduled to be complete in 2025. Lathan Architects is the architect, while Scout Program Management will serve as program manager of the project.

“A new high school has been years in the making, and Doster is proud to partner with Alexander City schools, Lathan Architects and Scout Program Management to bring this project to life,” said Doster Operations Manager Jim Davis.
