Governor awards $1 million for research, innovation

Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a total of nearly $1 million to three groups in Alabama to assist in producing innovative products and procedures. Grants were given to HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, Southern Research Institute in Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. – Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs

 

ServisFirst names new executive

Birmingham-based ServisFirst Bank has named Michael Lindsey as chief information and operations officer. Lindsey has three decades of financial services experience, most recently at Equipro Holdings in Oxford, Mississippi. – ServisFirst

Wawa breaks ground on Mobile store

The convenience store Wawa broke ground on its first store in Mobile and said two more are planned for Mobile and Semmes. The company already had a groundbreaking for its store in Fairhope. – AL.com

 

ALDI opens in Enterprise

The no-frills German grocery chain ALDI opened a location in Enterprise, the 41st Aldi store in Alabama. Earlier this year, ALDI opened a regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley. – Bama Buzz
