General Electric workers at a plant in Auburn have launched a plan to form a union. The Auburn plant, which builds a fuel nozzle on the LEAP jet engine, employs 179 people.  – Reuters

 

2nd Alabama Hyundai supplier accused of child labor

The U.S. Department of Labor says SL Alabama of Alexander City has violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by employing children under the age of 16. It’s the second Alabama Hyundai supplier accused of using child labor in the past month.  – AL.com

Jefferson County invests in five projects

The Jefferson County Commission approved investments of almost $32 million in five projects late last week. The projects awarded money were Pack Health, a local health care company; Kratos, a national security solutions provider that recently acquired the Southern Research Engineering division; The Bray, a Liberty Park Joint Venture with the City of Vestavia; Southern Research Institute, a non-profit scientific research organization; and The Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA)’s Supplier Scale program. – Birmingham Times

 

2 Daphne restaurants shuttered over sales tax

Cousin Vinny’s and Guido’s, two restaurants on the Eastern Shore in Daphne, are closed because of back taxes, according to notices on the restaurants’ doors. The sales tax amount owed, according to the notice, is almost $34,000. – News 5
