Alabama’s wealth includes a generous portfolio of waterfront properties, and the city of Gadsden took a $12.5 million step in October to improve its footprint on the Coosa River.
In January, the city announced plans to rehab a former retail space and reshape it into The Venue at Coosa Landing. The 50, 000-square-foot Venue would include 20, 000 square feet of retail space.
The city has now secured the Chase Building Group to do the renovations on the $12.5 million contract. The funding includes upgraded roads to connect a boat ramp with the city’s riverwalk.
“It’s a monumental effort in that it’s going to change the landscape of the riverfront and the city, ” City Council President Deverick Williams told the Gadsden Times.
City officials are hoping the new facility will draw a mix of fishing tournaments enthusiasts, boaters and shoppers once new stores are open for business.
