Fifth Third, Comerica banks to merge
Fifth Third Bank, which opened its first Alabama branch on Monday, is merging with Comerica in a $10.9 billion deal. The purchase by Fifth Third, which opened in Huntsville this week and plans other Alabama branches, will create the 9th-largest U.S. bank. – AL.com

Construction Partners acquires asphalt plants from Vulcan Materials
Dothan-based Construction Partners Inc. has acquired eight hot-mix asphalt plants throughout the Houston, Texas, metro area from affiliates of Vulcan Materials Co., also based in Birmingham. Developers break ground on Shoppes at Piney Creek
