University of Alabama in Huntsville Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering Dr. Jianqing Liu has won a five-year, $500,000 National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
His CAREER project looks to control and manipulate data errors in wireless devices using hardware and software co-design approaches. Liu, whose lab is in the Optics Building at UAH, says every wireless device is very shaky and unreliable in operations such as communication, computation and storage that currently are corrected using error control modules. However, these modules consume a significant amount of wireless device battery, storage space and processor resources.
Liu’s project hopes to harvest these data errors to help provide better security.
