Dotdash Meredith, whose Birmingham office publishes Southern Living and allrecipes.com, among other publications, is laying off 7% of its employees nationally. The Birmingham office will see a 3% layoff of employees.
“HR and business leaders have scheduled 1:1 meetings this morning with those who are impacted,” CEO Neil Vogel said to employees in an email.
Business Record reported the majority of the layoffs will come from the company’s headquarters in New York but that other layoffs will occur in Birmingham, Los Angeles and Vermont.
“Like many businesses in our space, we have grown aggressively over the last few years, while also integrating our two companies,” Vogel said in the email, referring to the $2.7 billion purchase of Meredith by Dotdash in 2021. “With the difficult market environment and economic uncertainty that lie ahead, we must prioritize the biggest opportunities and make sure we have the proper cost structure in place to pursue them.”
