Change has to happen, even next to fabled Bryant-Denny Stadium. Demolition began in June starting with the Hillel House and the Stadium Apartments to make room for Westgate Residences, a luxury condominium development for Tuscaloosa.
Former Crimson Tide linebacker Dont’a Hightower is among the first reservation holders. Hightower was a member of two BCS National Championship teams and selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
“We are proud to contribute a new development that celebrates all things Alabama to the Tuscaloosa skyline, ” says Matthew Summers, vice president of real estate development at Spectrum Tide, a Jackson, Mississippi-based commercial real estate developer.
Spectrum Tide is anticipating a 16-month construction window and plans call for one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units, as well as five-bedroom penthouse units. The project also delivers ample parking, a rarity in the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium.
