CSX, Amtrak feud heats up as hearing nears

In advance of a Feb. 15 hearing, CSX Transportation is asking shippers to voice their support regarding Amtrak’s request to launch passenger service on the Gulf Coast. CSX CEO Jim Foote asked shippers to sign a petition or to write the Surface Transportation Board regarding the potential negative impact Amtrak service would have on freight traffic. – Trains.com

 

Todd Greer named Innovation Portal executive

Todd Greer has been named executive director of Innovation Portal, a Mobile-based nonprofit incubator and innovation hub. Greer, formerly vice president of Academic Affairs at the University of Mobile, takes the helm of Innovation Portal on March 1. – Alabama NewsCenter

UA plans $183 million basketball arena

The University of Alabama unveiled plans on Friday for a new $183 million basketball arena that would seat about 10,136 people. No timetable has been set, yet, but documents presented to the UA System board of trustees call for construction bids to begin in April 2023.  –  AL.com

The Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship USS Savannah was commissioned Saturday in Brunswick, Georgia. The ship was built at Austal USA in Mobile –  Navy.mil

 

AA rating affirmed for Montgomery warrants

Fitch Ratings has affirmed a AA rating for some $20 million in general obligation warrants issued by the City of Montgomery. In addition, Fitch affirmed Montgomery’s AA Issuer Default Rating.  –  Fitch Ratings
