Traveling by motorcycle is one of the best ways to explore a destination, offering riders with an unobstructed 180-degree view. Situated along the southern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, North Alabama has become a favorite area to explore by motorcycling enthusiasts. With its spectacular geologically diverse area, North Alabama is home to river cities, waterfalls, vineyards, recreational lands, lush forests and rolling hills – all the things that make for an unforgettable riding experience.

Riders can choose from ten routes, each one offering something different to experience depending on the rider’s mood and curiosity.

The Natchez Trace route is popular in autumn for the brilliant fall colors. Riders are treated to a nice twisty road through the heart of Alabama’s largest national forest on the Bankhead National Forest (Route 1) or check out the Bankhead National Forest (Route 2) where spots along the way touch on the history of the area with stops at the Cullman County Museum, Dual Destiny Civil War Monument and historic Houston Log Jail. The Covered Bridges route features three covered bridges and a scenic drive through farmlands and rolling hills. The Lookout Mountain Parkway Route offers a 93-mile journey filled with waterfalls, canyons, scenic brow vistas, unique towns and villages, state and national parks and preserves and other natural wonders. The Sand Mountain route features multiple views of the 69,000-acre Lake Guntersville and important Civil War sites. The Dam Tour is a daylong route following the Tennessee River’s path through north Alabama. The Northeast Mountains route offers beautiful scenery as the vistas in this area are spectacular, particularly the mountain panoramas. Not only for motorcycles, the Limestone County route features trails for bicyclists and offers a variety of scenery including antebellum homes, tree-lined country roads, farmland, woodlands and streams. Last, enjoy spectacular views, learn the art of making wine, meet the winemakers and hear their stories and tour the vineyards while cruising the North Alabama Wine Trail.
