Bruce S. Denson Sr., who has been in the insurance industry for almost 50 years, will retire as chairman of Cobbs Allen effective Jan. 1, 2021.
Denson, who joined the Birmingham company in 1993, will become board chairman emeritus.
During Denson’s tenure, average revenue increased from $1.2 million to more than $40 million, and CEO Grantland Rice III praised him for what he accomplished during his tenure at the firm.
“Over the past 27 years, Cobbs Allen has faced many obstacles and overcome them based on the strengths of our people,” Rice said. “Our industry is one where we don’t have a manufacturing plant or inventory on the shelves, but we do have quality people with intellectual capabilities to provide solutions for clients. Our staff consults with clients daily on more efficient ways to run their businesses and deploy capital. Bruce brought a competitiveness and heightened accountability to the team; he instilled a sense of working every day to solve problems for our clients and never letting up on our activity. All of the team at Cobbs Allen has learned much from Bruce over the years and we have benefited greatly from his industry knowledge.”
In addition to his work at Cobbs Allen, Denson has worked with Central Alabama United Way, the American Lung Association and the Altamont School. He recently led a capital campaign for Birmingham’s Firehouse Shelter.
Cobbs Allen is a national independent agency focused on risk management in niche practice groups.
