Calhoun hires Candace Byrd-Vinson as its women’s basketball coach

Calhoun Community College has hired Candace Byrd-Vinson as its new women’s basketball coach.

A Tanner native, Byrd-Vinson was recognized throughout her high school career on the court, where she played multiple positions. She was named All-County five times, All-State four times and was named 2A Player of the Year, as well as The Decatur Daily Player of the Year. She went on to play at Birmingham-Southern College.

After graduation, Byrd-Vinson went into coaching, where she most recently served as head girls’ basketball coach at R.A. Hubbard High School in North Courtland, where she led the team to a Class 1A State Championship in 2017 and multiple regional championship appearances.

In 2018, Byrd-Vinson was inducted into the Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame. She is employed by Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama, where she serves as the director for the Boys and Girls Club of Athens. She also serves on the Athens City Chamber of Commerce board and Public Service Diversified.
