Both Birmingham and Mobile are raising employees’ pay. In Birmingham, a 5% pay raise for city workers was endorsed by the City Council Tuesday, while Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced on Tuesday a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment for city workers. – AL.com

 

Shoals Chamber begins Emerge program

The Shoals Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its Emerge leadership program, a nine-month course focusing on teaching young professionals how to lead responsibly. Twenty participants were chosen from 60 applicants. – News 19

Grocery coming to Birmingham ‘food desert’

Food Giant will open a 22,000-square-foot location in a Birmingham area the mayor has labeled a “food desert.” The location in a former Winn-Dixie at Five Points West should be open by Dec. 1.  – WVTM 13

 

First Huey Magoo’s opens in Alabama

Huey Magoo’s, a chicken-tender restaurant chain, has opened its first Alabama location in Montgomery. The chain is based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and is planning three more Montgomery-area openings. – Montgomery Advertiser
