Austal USA has been awarded contract options valued at $314 million, allowing the Mobile firm to use a long lead time to order materials for additional Coast Guard patrol cutters.
Austal won the contract in 2022, with the potential for 11 cutters valued at up to $3.3 billion. So far, Austal has been assigned work on two cutters. These contract options allow the firm to purchase materials for four more cutters.
“We are pleased to receive these contract options for long lead-time materials in support of the U.S. Coast Guard’s OPC program,” said Austal USA President Michelle Kruger. “These early awards speak to the strong partnership that has developed between the Coast Guard and Austal USA teams. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership and deliver these much-needed cutters.”
Keel laying for the first cutter is set for December, and construction on the second began in August.
