Schmidt Automotive, an Auburn company that makes automotive powertrain components and assemblies, said a planned $7.7 million expansion will create 25 new jobs over the next two years. The company, which came to Auburn in 2015, has a plant on Innovation Drive. – AL.com

 

Iron Tribe Fitness plans expansion

Iron Tribe Fitness, a Birmingham-based fitness chain with 29 gyms in eight states, is planning at least five more locations by the end of 2023. Development deals have been signed for gyms in Auburn; Tampa, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; and Nashville, Tennessee.   – Club Industry

Florida BBQ chain wants to come to Alabama

Woody’s Bar-B-Q, which started in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1980 and now has 15 locations in Florida and one in Pennsylvania, wants to expand to Alabama and other surrounding states. The restaurant’s menu includes ribs, brisket, prime rib and catfish.  – AL.com

 

KPOT coming to Alabama, opening in Tuscaloosa

KPOT, a Korean barbecue and hot pot franchise, will be opening its first Alabama location in Tuscaloosa. The new restaurant will open in the former Juicy Seafood location off of Skyland Boulevard. – Bama Buzz

 

Historic church lands preservation money

Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church, the site of a bombing in 1963 that killed four young girls, has received a historic preservation grant for $200,000. It is among 35 historic Black churches across the U.S. receiving a total of $4 million from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. – Birmingham Times
