ASU receives $38 million gift from MacKenzie Scott

It’s the largest single donation in the university’s history

Alabama State University on Monday announced a $38 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the largest single donation in the university’s 158-year history.

The announcement came via a Facebook post from ASU President Quinton Ross.

“Today marks a defining moment in the history of Alabama State University,” he wrote. “Ms. Scott’s generosity affirms Alabama State University’s reputation as a catalyst for excellence and innovation in higher education. This is truly a pivotal moment in ASU’s history.”

Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is a philanthropist and author who has made several large donations to universities around the country.
