Amoi Geter, of Hoover, has been named director of communication strategy and public relations for Southern Company Gas.
In this role, she will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans that align the efforts of natural gas providers in Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois and Virginia with Southern Company Gas. In addition, she will oversee all media and public relations efforts across the enterprise and will lead the company’s corporate sustainability communications strategy.
Geter has more than 20 years of experience at Southern Company, including various roles at Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear, Georgia Power, Mississippi Power, Nicor Gas and Southern Company Services. Since 2001, she has led communication strategy on key issues including environmental compliance, power system upgrades, regulatory and crisis preparedness. She most recently served as director of corporate communications for Nicor Gas, in Illinois.
Prior to working at Southern Company, Geter worked at NBC-affiliate WVTM-TV Birmingham for five years.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo and is an active member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, National Association of Black Journalists, Public Relations Society of America and the Asian American Journalist Association.
