Bruce Irwin, who turned his Hoover clinic into the 30-state American Family Care network, has died. He was 73. Irwin opened the first AFC in Hoover in 1982, and the company now has more than 300 locations. – AL.com

Encompass opens new Florida hospital

Birmingham-based Encompass Health has opened Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Clermont in Florida. It’s a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital and is Encompass’ 20th in Florida. – Encompass Health

Gadsden buys former YMCA building

The City of Gadsden has purchased the former YMCA of the Coosa Valley building for $950,000. The purchase coincides with Gadsden’s plan to develop its riverfront area. The YMCA had closed effective April 15.  – The Gadsden Times
