Jacksonville State names Alan Medders vice president of philanthropy

Dr. Alan Medders, who has served as interim vice president of advancement at Jacksonville State University has been appointed vice president of philanthropy.

This decision reflects a title change for the JSU Division of Advancement, as well as its senior leader. The division will now be known as the Division of Philanthropy.

“The board and I are pleased Dr. Medders agreed to continue serving in this role for the long term,” said JSU President Don Killingsworth Jr. “He has a strong track record of securing major gifts at peer universities throughout his impressive career. We feel he will play a vital role in advancing the university in the years ahead.”

Medders earned his undergraduate degree from Samford University, a master of divinity and a doctor of ministry from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky and his doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Tennessee Knoxville.

In his new role, he will provide senior leadership for the Division of Philanthropy, with oversight of the university’s fundraising, alumni relations and marketing and strategic communications efforts. He also will serve as executive director of the JSU Foundation.
