About the awards

Alabama’s Safest Manufacturers Awards recognize manufacturing companies from all across Alabama with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers.

The award celebrates Alabama manufacturers for their exemplary safety practices. Companies are judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements, including employee training, management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives.

The winners will be recognized annually at Alabama’s Manufacturing Awards program in Montgomery.

What is the complete process?

Step 1: Nominate your company for an award.

Step 2: Provide the required documentation and meet the deadlines.

Step 3: Our judges review your nomination. The judges then determine the winners. The winners are notified early-April. (If you did not win, you will be notified by the end of April).

Step 4: If you are a winner, you will be required to co-operate with Business Alabama magazine and Alabama’s Safest Manufacturers Awards organizing team on a variety of items including, but not limited to, being interviewed by a writer, and submitting photos of your workforce. There are tight deadlines for these, many of which are occurring in April, and you will be required to meet these deadlines. Please note, as we are PMT Publishing, Inc. and these items are pieces of journalism, you are not able to review the article prior to publication. We suggest involving your communications team early on and inviting them to be present at all interviews to alleviate any concerns.

Step 5: The Overall Safety Standout winner is invited to attend the awards ceremony on May 13 in Montgomery to receive their award. The other winners that will be profiled in Business Alabama’s June 2020 special section will receive their awards via mail in May 2020.

When is the deadline to apply?

The deadline is March 21, 2020 at 11:59pm CST for all awards.

Does it cost money to participate in the awards?

No. There is no cost at all to participate in the awards or if you are a winner. There are optional costs associated with being a winner, such as if you want to buy additional Manufacturing award tickets (you get one for free if you are the Overall Safety Standout), buy more copies of the safest employers issue of the magazine or place a congratulatory ad in the magazine. But these are all optional costs and have no bearing whatsoever on the results of the awards.

We are an Alabama division of an international company, can we apply?

Yes, you can. Please make sure to respond to the nomination form questions with just the Alabama division in mind, as just the Alabama division would be evaluated.

We have multiple locations/plants across Alabama but we only want to nominate one plant. Can we do that?

Yes. You can specify the location you want to nominate in your nomination form. Please make sure to fill out all parts of the form with just that one location in mind, such as number of employees, loss time injuries etc.

How does the survey work?

You will receive a link to the survey that a responsible party from your company will need to complete and submit along with OSHA documentation.

Can I get an extension on the survey?

Unfortunately, no extensions will be given for any reason.

When future winners are named, how long can we keep the winner’s badge that we were provided by the ASM organizing committee on our website/materials?

You can use the winner’s badge as long as you want. For example, if you were a 2019 winner and the badge displays the year ‘2019’ on it, you can still use this in 2020 and beyond!

Will my nomination information be publicly available?

A portion of the application will be used to report the winners’ Best Practices paragraphs, top executive & safety director names. Much of the responses on the application will only be seen by the judges and organizers of the program.
