Following public outcry and Public Service Commission President Twinkle Cavanaugh saying she would fight against it, Alabama Power has withdrawn its plans to get a license to operate a facility at Chandler Mountain. The project would have created dual reservoirs to provide more energy, but homeowners would have been displaced. – WVTM 13

Birmingham pub and restaurant Carrigan’s Public House is shifting its focus beginning Aug. 26, becoming Carrigan’s Philathropub. Contract worker killed at Jackson plant

A contract worker died this week in an accident at the Packaging Corporation of America plant in Jackson. A witness reported that a large truck the worker was driving rolled over into a pond on the company’s property.– News 5
