Alabama Power scraps Chandler Mountain project
Following public outcry and Public Service Commission President Twinkle Cavanaugh saying she would fight against it, Alabama Power has withdrawn its plans to get a license to operate a facility at Chandler Mountain. Birmingham pub and restaurant Carrigan’s Public House is shifting its focus beginning Aug. 26, becoming Carrigan’s Philathropub. Beginning then, all profits will be donated to various charities, and Carrigan’s will offer free use of its event space to events and partnerships with community-focused groups. – Bham Now
Contract worker killed at Jackson plant
A contract worker died this week in an accident at the Packaging Corporation of America plant in Jackson. A witness reported that a large truck the worker was driving rolled over into a pond on the company’s property.– News 5
