Alabama lawmakers call for Amtrak to finish study
Alabama’s entire Congressional delegation is calling for Amtrak to complete a feasibility study before proceeding with passenger rail service out of Mobile. The study would determine potential impact to the Port of Mobile if Amtrak service is restored. – Mass Transit
UAB a top employer for diversity
Forbes magazine says the University of Alabama at Birmingham is the country’s 4th-best employer when it comes to diversity. The survey was conducted among more than 50,000 employees working for companies employing at least 1,000 people. They were queried on topics including age, gender equality, ethnicity, disability and LGBTQA+. In February, Forbes named UAB the top large employer in the country. – UAB
Groundbreaking on USA Health Fairhope facility expected this year
Construction of a new University of South Alabama Health medical center in Fairhope should begin by the fall. The new Mapp Family Campus will serve the Eastern Shore. A 50,000-square-foot professional office building will come first, and a 25,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center will follow at an undetermined time. – GulfCoastNewsToday.com
Birmingham startup raises $1 million
Con.doit, a Birmingham company that recently was a part of Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, has raised $1 million in funding. The company, founded last year by Ian Hoppe and Jim Crapia, produces an electrical system mapping application. Funding came from investors including the Alabama Futures Fund, Overline Venture Capital and Techstars. – AL.com
