Alabama AGC members win national awards

Marathon Electrical, Auburn AGC among winners

Marathon Electrical Contractors and Auburn University’s AGC Student Chapter won national awards from the Association of General Contractors of America.

Marathon, headquartered in Irondale, won an AGC Build America Award for having one of the nation’s best construction safety and wellness plans in 2021. The Auburn group won for performing charitable work in 2021.

AGC of America President Bob Lanham called Marathon “a leader in the industry.”

“Safety and health is the number one priority for the construction industry and it’s important that we recognize our member companies for their efforts to lead by example,” he said.

Thomas Brown, chairman of AGC Charities, praised the Auburn student chapter’s work as part of its BSCI service-learning class.

“These award recipients have used their skills to help improve the lives of those around them,” he said. “Their hard work and generosity reflect well on this industry and our association.”

The Auburn University AGC Student Chapter participated in three service projects including the Curtis House project, Auburn Habitat House and the Samson’s Strength Sustainable Veterans Project Veterans House. These projects saw the students of Auburn’s AGC Student Chapter complete framing of houses and roofs, install rough plumbing, electrical, and spray foam insulation, prefabricate and build wall sections off-site and transport/assemble them on-site, and more.
