AL Hyundai Workers Give $335K to United Way

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama’s employees and plant leadership donated more than $335,000 to United Ways of Alabama in mid-November. The plant’s nearly 3,000 workers pledged $265,600 and the company added another $70,000 to present to United Way for its efforts across the River Region and the state of Alabama.

This marks the 16th consecutive year that the HMMA team members have pledged to support United Way. In total, since HMMA’s first United Way campaign in 2004, team members have pledged more than $3 million to United Ways of Alabama.

“You, HMMA, are change agents who cannot leave well enough alone because you believe that you can always make things better,” said River Region United Way President Jimmy Hill. “I’m proud to share this common belief that together we can make life better for everyone.”

The money is divided up depending on where employees live, which means the River Region area will receive a large chunk of the donation. The River Region United Way supports more than 40 nonprofit agencies that help everyone from the homebound elderly to neglected children. The River Region service area includes Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery counties in Alabama. More than half of the River Region United Way’s campaign dollars are raised by workplace employees through a giving campaign.
