You already know about the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Billions of data sources paired with the sophistication of data-gathering, storage and automated analysis have led to unprecedented breakthroughs, allowing AI developers to create new tools that simulate the decision-making processes of the human mind.
What remains less clear is exactly how this technology will change the way we live and work. For every proposed benefit of AI in business, there are just as many unknowns. For now, here are three ways AI is changing modern business as we know it.
1. AI Automates Repetitive Processes
Many business processes have repetitive elements, making the increased adoption of AI a welcome one for managers and employees. AI-assisted tools can help organizations avoid burnout in workers, bringing the more engaging and thought-provoking work to the forefront while allowing AI to handle repetitive tasks.
2. Users Must Learn AI Prompt Engineering
Like any new technology, AI is only helpful when we know how to use it. Despite the name, modern AI does not think on its own without human input. Anyone using AI at work must learn new ways to interact with it. Getting the desired output requires the right input, known as AI prompt engineering.
For many, this will mean additional on-the-job training. Perhaps even more technical skills than those commonly associated with business administration and other disciplines. Just as we learned to use search engines to access online information, we’ll learn to structure written, verbal and numeric inputs to generate desired outcomes from AI applications.
3. Cybersecurity Is Evolving
AI’s cybersecurity benefits are clear. A powerful processing tool that continually monitors threats and adapts in real time can help limit the risks of data theft, ransomware and other digital crimes. However, AI also creates challenges. Organizations need new ways to safeguard against AI-augmented threats that can simulate human interaction. For cybersecurity professionals, AI may expand demand for skilled workers even as it automates rudimentary security processes.
Integrating AI Is Happening for Many Companies
Many AI technologies are just more sophisticated versions of applications we already use. Machine learning tools help us find new shows to watch, interact with voice assistants such as Alexa or Siri and plan commutes between home and work.
