Avion Solutions, a 100% employee-owned leader in defense technology solutions, is positioning itself for continued growth with the creation of two new director-level positions designed to advance Avion’s strategic priorities and expand customer support capabilities. The company is pleased to announce the promotions of Alan Hicks to director of aviation technical services and Joe Herman to director of aviation programs.
Hicks joined Avion nearly 20 years ago as a hydraulics engineer supporting the U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Directorate’s Propulsion Division. Since then, he has advanced through a variety of technical and leadership positions, playing an integral role in growing and leading Avion’s engineering and technical support capabilities. Hicks is a registered professional engineer and holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama.
Herman joined Avion in 2023 following a distinguished 29-year career in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Colonel. A former Army aviator and senior Army Acquisition Corps leader, he previously served as chief of staff for the Missile Defense Agency’s Directorate for Test, program director for the Army’s International Apache Program, and program manager for Apache Development and Modernization. He is DAWIA Level III certified in program management and holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Missouri Western State University.
