Linq, a Birmingham-based communications startup, has raised $20 million in Series A funding.

The funding series is led by TQ Ventures, along with Mucker Capital and leading angels including an ex-Apple and Google executive.

The company’s platform gives AI agents the ability to communicate with users via iMessage, RCS/SMS and voice at scale. The platform allows AI and traditional businesses to autonomously send messages and make calls. It’s being used by more than 100 companies, including poke.com, Tomo and Hypercard, to send more than 30 million messages per month.

“Every team we talked to that was building an AI agent had the same problem: they couldn’t get users to download another app,” said Elliott Potter, co-founder and CEO of Linq. “By living in users’ text threads, developers aren’t limited by who downloads their app. Anyone in the world with a phone can instantly become a user.”

Linq was founded by Potter, Patrick Sullivan and Jared Mattsson, all former Shipt executives. Potter is CEO, Sullivan is CTO and Mattsson is president.
