Kroger to lay off almost 1,000
Kroger, the grocery chain with some locations in Alabama, plans to lay off more than 1,000 employees, though it’s not saying what stores will be affected. Earlier this summer, the chain said it would close 60 stores over the next 18 months. – AL.com

Through its annual Backpack Blessings program, Birmingham’s Full Moon Bar-B-Que has given more than $200,000 in stocked backpacks to children in need in Alabama and Mississippi.
