The year 2025 was a record-breaker in the state of Alabama when it comes to economic development, led by Eli Lilly and Co.’s planned $6 billion operation in Huntsville.

The Alabama Department of Commerce’s annual report lists 234 projects with a combined capital investment of $14.6 billion, the largest in the state’s history.

“Alabama’s economy is riding a wave of historic momentum, with signs of success in every corner of our state. Innovative developments, high-quality jobs and transformative investments are ushering in an extraordinary era of prosperity, as new companies move in and existing ones expand,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “This growth is the result of a strategic economic development plan and the hard work of a team that is focused on keeping Alabama at the forefront of a competitive global economy.”

In addition to Lilly’s pharmaceutical facility, other “pivotal” investments, according to the state, included ArcelorMittal investing $1.2 billion in a Mobile County facility and Owens Corning’s plans for a $325 million manufacturing plant in Prattville.

Investments in Rural Alabama counties totaled $2 billion, including Georgia Pacific’s planned $800 million renovation of its Alabama River cellulose mill in Monroe County.
