Huntsville readies for Toyota-Mazda plant, just in case

While major new auto plant is surmised to be headed for either Alabama or North Carolina, there’s been increasing activity at a contending site in Huntsville and the city council has been at work on a special tax district that includes the site — but it might all be coincidence. —

GAO denies helicopter maintenance contract protest

L3 Army Fleet Support’s contract to maintain Army helicopters suffered another blow this week as the U.S. General Accounting Office denied L3’s protest over loss of its helicopter maintenance contract to Texas firm. Army Fleet Support has maintained helicopters at Fort Rucker for 15 years, but lost the contract to M1 Support Services of Denton, Texas. — Dothan Eagle

Alabama notches up among move-it-yourself destinations

Alabama ranked 11th for growth as an inbound U-Haul destination in 2017, according to data released by the self-move company. Inbound rentals were up 7 percent and outbound rentals were down 6 percent. Troy, Daphne and Huntsville were the top destination cities. — News release

Threaded Fasteners acquires Florida firm

Mobile-based Threaded Fasteners has acquired Bolt & Nut Inc. of Tampa, Florida. Threaded Fasteners’ Tampa operations will move into Bolt & Nut’s 50, 000-square-foot facilities there.  Threaded Fasteners makes and distributes fasteners for power, chemical, marine and other industries. — News release

Building & Earth tapped for geotech services on UAB project

Building & Earth is currently providing services for the new $33.9 million University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Gardendale medical center project, located in Gardendale, Alabama. Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor for the project, which broke ground in November. — News release
