Austal USA wins two more Littoral Combat Ships contracts
The Navy awarded modifications to previously awarded Littoral Combat Ship contracts for one Fiscal Year 2018 — one to Lockheed Martin and two to Austal USA. Raycom, owners of WSFA, announce layoffs as merger moves ahead
Montgomery-based Raycom Media informed some employees this week that they won’t have a job once the merger that’s now in the works is finalized. McPherson acquisitions expand distribution territory
The McPherson Companies Inc., based in Trussville, has acquired portions of Retif Oil & Fuel and of B&M Oil Co. Huntsville’s Teledyne Brown Engineering is part of a team led by Virginia-based Adams Communications & Engineering Technology, which is one of 15 chosen for a $28 billion contract for research and development services. Alabama Senator introduces bill to support minority colleges
U.S. Senator Doug Jones has introduced the Strengthening Minority-Serving Institutions Act, which will increase mandatory funding levels from $255 million to $300 million for HBCUs and other minority-serving institutions of higher education. — Diverse

College approves sale of Alabama radio station
The Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees voted last week to allow Gadsden State Community College to sell WSGN, the college said in a press release Monday. WSGN had been rebroadcasting content from WBHM in Birmingham since 1992. That agreement expires Sept. 30, and the station will go dark until a sale is complete. — Current
