Amtrak is back in Mobile – 16 years later
More than 16 years after the Gulf Coast has seen passenger train service, Amtrak plans to begin service in 2022 that will connect New Orleans to Mobile via four stops in Mississippi: Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula. – AL.com

Huntsville hospital chief retiring
David Spillers, CEO of the Huntsville Hospital Health System, will retire in July after 15 years on the job. Jeff Samz, executive vice president and COO, will become CEO. HHHS has hospitals in Huntsville, Athens, Decatur, Sheffield, Red Bay, Boaz and Guntersville. – WAAY 31

Alabama starts chapter of NAWBO
Alabama now has a chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. NAWBO calls itself “the unified voice of America’s more than 11.6 million women-owned businesses.” – Cision

Tuskegee now DOD aerospace education center
Tuskegee University, home of the Tuskegee Airmen, has been named a Department of Defense aerospace education center of excellence. The Aerospace Education Research and Innovation Center will support undergraduate research in materials and aerospace sciences. The DOD says Tuskegee is the country’s top producer of Black aerospace engineers.  – Alabama News Network 

Another mall bites the dust
Tuscaloosa’s McFarland Mall, a 100,000-square-foot shopping area that opened in 1969, was demolished on Tuesday. Developer Stan Pate is planning to build a sports complex, which would also include stores, restaurants and an ice-skating rink, on the property. – CBS 42
